The Myrtle Beach Golf Talk Forum is the heart and soul of this website (it's where the "Talk" is derived from) and has transformed over the years.  This is the latest, and hopfully last, incarnation of the Forum.  Here is where all of the latest information can be found, from recent trip reports to advice for a particular issue.  Over the years, Forum members have formed friendships, there is an annual Forum Outing in Myrtle Beach and occassionaly local outings where Forum members get together and play golf.

If you are seeing this notice, you are either not registered on the site and/or not signed in.  Not all of the Forum content is visible to you either.  Some of it, such as the Trip Reports, is only visible by registered users of the site and you must be signed in.  So if you are registered, that's great.  Sign in and view all of the content.  If you are not registered, please do so by clicking the Register link up at the top left of the page.  It only takes a few minutes.  Then, come on in and get to know us and hopefully participate.

Hi, I was on the old board and just found the new one and registered thanks to Brian and Dave's help.
Does anyone use Spirt's $9 club? I have done some research online and find conflicting reports. I fly out of LaGuardia and have used Spirit many times before. I am well aware that it is a budget airline and have had my share of delayed flights and attempted to call the customer service outsourced to India which is utterly useless, but I have also had many smooth flights as well.
The flight from NYC is short enough that I would consider purchasing the membership if I could get some cheap fairs that would let me get down there for some long weekends. Thoughts?

I travel twice a month from Atlantic City to Myrtle Beach with the $9.00 fare club membership and with taxes and fees it usually runs me $72.00 round trip.I always get the first flight out in the morning and never a problem but coming h ome i get the last flight of the day and it is usually delayed an hour or so.Don't forget Spirit charges for everything fron golf clubs [$38.00 roundtrip] to carry on bags which is another $38.

I agree with Sherm.  With Spirit you get what you pay for.  I am fortunate that I can fly either Spirit or Delta non stop to MB from Detroit.  I am a member of the $9 club and have used it numerous times.  The fees that Spirit charges need to be taken into consideration but it usually works out cheaper than anyone else.  My group in October is flying in for a round trip cost of $79 plus fees which worked out to $88 total for two bags checked each way.  For $167 total per person including fees, not a bad deal.  My September trip on Delta cost $169 per person plus bags round trip but I get one bag per person booked for no charge.  I have had no problem with Spirit on my arrival flights (first thing in the morning), but have had delays on my departure-anything from 1 hour to 3 hours.  Just be aware that not every flight on Spirit qualifies for the $9 fare.  That is why I am flying on Delta in September and Spirit in October.  Hope this helps.

On my upcoming trip I paid for the membership and ended up saving enough money as I purchased tickets for 5 guys in my group where the RT from NYC to MYR for 5 post purchase of the membership was $153 (during a $50 off promo post strike). Also as a member you get slightly discounted baggage ... so RT for me for clubs / carry-on was $70.

I have a question about this.. Did you book the Spirit trip before the golf? The dates that Spirit offers are always unpredictable and I book my trip with Brian months & months ahead.. and then I usually book the tickets with Spirit, but at that time there are no $9 fares offered.. They usually come out way after al of the plans are set & paid for.. I have been unwilling to wait and wait because the closer you get to a departure date, the more expensive the flight.. so how do you do this? I don't have that kind of fortitude, if the plane fare is too high, i lose people..

I was able to join the $9 fare club for free by accepting the free Spirit MasterCard and stay a member as long as I make 1 purchase each billing cycle. Problem is there are almost no direct flights on Spirit anywhere out of Atlanta. Spirit does fly to MB, but not sure I would save much, if any, money traveling with luggage and clubs. Guess a 6 hour 15 minute car ride isn't all that bad.
2012 will mark my 34th consecutive year to make a golf trip to Myrtle. Retired as "group leader" after last May's trip, but unretired long enough to book golf thru Brian for May 2012.

I book with Brian first and leave everything open for the arrival day.  The Spirit flight gets in early and the Delta flight does not arrive until noon.  I then start monitoring airfares and jump on what looks like a deal.  It is my experience that Tuesday is the best day to search for fares and the weekend is the worst.  I usually have the flights booked three months before arrival.  Been lucky so far.

XM ... I don't do the $9 fare, which I would love to do primarily cause of the lack of flexibility getting 8 guys with tee times and taking off of work / getting away from their families spur of the moment. But what I do is usually wait for their desperation promos - $50 off / $35 off and settle for that.

Thats prety much what I thought.. At this moment I have 4 rain checks for legends and 2 rainchecks for Meadowlands in my wallet.. My thought was to grab a $9 fare somehow with a buddy and use them up based on getting a good airfare... but other than that, the $9 fares are useless for organizing trips.. Is that corect?

Thanks for the responses. I have the good fortune to have a place across from Barefoot Landing and I am able to keep a bag of clubs down there all year. One way to avoid all the nickle and diming that Spirit does, but hey I will take a $30 hour and half flight to get down here.

Don't fly USAir out of Philly always delays always lost bags.....
Ole Head Kinsale 535 par 5 220 to clear the rocks than a 3 hybrid a knock down 7 another knock down 7 and 1 putt sweet...........
