The Myrtle Beach Golf Talk Forum is the heart and soul of this website (it's where the "Talk" is derived from) and has transformed over the years.  This is the latest, and hopfully last, incarnation of the Forum.  Here is where all of the latest information can be found, from recent trip reports to advice for a particular issue.  Over the years, Forum members have formed friendships, there is an annual Forum Outing in Myrtle Beach and occassionaly local outings where Forum members get together and play golf.

If you are seeing this notice, you are either not registered on the site and/or not signed in.  Not all of the Forum content is visible to you either.  Some of it, such as the Trip Reports, is only visible by registered users of the site and you must be signed in.  So if you are registered, that's great.  Sign in and view all of the content.  If you are not registered, please do so by clicking the Register link up at the top left of the page.  It only takes a few minutes.  Then, come on in and get to know us and hopefully participate.

The proposed dates are still helpful, because some trips are far enough away from a proposed date, that the odds are good to avoid CPO.  IE if a trip is early to mid Oct, the late Oct and Nov date courses are better odds to avoid CPO than the late Sept to early Oct courses.

Is Caledonia really  "last week of Nov"?

I don't understand the courses that say the fairway overseed won't affect play.  New this year is the "blown in" term that won't affect play.  After the courses soak the fairways, it's usually CPO and that is what golfers are concerned about avoiding, at least some days, if we can.

    Thanks for the good info!

Why do you say the "still helpful"?

I don't make this stuff up Art ..... Mark Guertin, 1st Assistant at Caledonia said they plan to overseed the last week of November.

They have developed a saw dust type of overseed now, it doesn't need to be "watered in" .... they lay it water like a normal shower after they put it down and are on paths the next day. Amazing thing technology is .... Glen Dornoch has done it the last 2 years from what Vicki The Head Pro at Glen Dornoch says.

You need to make friends with a Super, call George Gore at Heather Glen or maybe Bob Zuercher at Blackmoor ... you guys can discuss the what, why and when's .... i'm just passing along pertinant information to help people avoid problems with their golf vacations.

I was only saying that the "proposed" dates are helpful to have for planning, even if they can change.   We are happy to see them, compared to no dates.

What you posted about new overseeding techniques is very interesting.  I haven't seen anything about new overseed techniques like that.  The only new overseed options discussed have been not to overseed or to dye greens.

    Thanks!

    Art,

What do you feel is a reasonable time for greens down there to heal after they are punched?

I know there are different methods that heal at different times but I am coming down next Thursday and I noticed a lot of courses are aerating just before or just after Labor Day weekend.
Looking at River's Edge, TPC, Thistle and Willbrook.
    Thanks.

Bill, the Fall aerification is a smaller tyne and many don't even pull the cores, just punch the greens. Fall aerification recovery time is generally 5-7 days compared to the Summer where it's 10-14 days. The reason for the one week rate period in September (atleast according to the MBAGCOA) is so the golf courses can aerify AFTER the World Am. That way the greens will be healed in mid September and they can start building the rate to the Fall high in October. Not all courses subscribes to this thought process, that is why I created the Fall Aerification page on the site.

Brian covered the various time frames.
For any greens that were in poor condition, recovery would probably take longer.
