The Myrtle Beach Golf Talk Forum is the heart and soul of this website (it's where the "Talk" is derived from) and has transformed over the years.  This is the latest, and hopfully last, incarnation of the Forum.  Here is where all of the latest information can be found, from recent trip reports to advice for a particular issue.  Over the years, Forum members have formed friendships, there is an annual Forum Outing in Myrtle Beach and occassionaly local outings where Forum members get together and play golf.

Played BF Dye today with Brian and Rich, aka oldandcrafty, aka "I can get up and down from anywhere"....and he can! Course was in great shape as always....new greens were terrific and true to putt on. Typical Dye routing...tons of sand both fairways and greens, water, and woods. We played from the blacks at 6600 yds and it was all the challenge I need! Beautiful clubhouse, range, etc...first class operation from bag drop to parking lot. Got to chat some with head pro Jeff Diehl who's a straight shooter. Call him anytime if you have any concerns. Rich and Brian were a blast to play with as always. Great food at the dining room too!

Some overall final notes...MB golf in the summer is a mixed bag. It's hot as hell out there with lots of humidity, but the courses are mostly open and playing time is very good. I played 4 times and all 4 rounds were 3:40 or less. Prices were very good as well. And I realized why I don't play as well in MB as I do at home....it's the course layouts. They have trees, water, and sand where I like to hit the ball and their fairways are in all the wrong spots! Traffic seemed less bothersome this year too, and our condo complex was no where near full. I will do a restaurant report later on, but leaving tomorrow for home. Sheppy's in town and this place ain't big enough for both of us!

Nice daily reports Yank! You played an variety of courses. We did a  family trip to MB in the summer back in 1992...very hot temps..Did play 1 round that week at River Oaks..I was the the only one there! played 54 holes. Finally caught a 2some on my 45th..played the last nine with them.. i think i play all 54 in 7 hours ( with breaks).

Leaving 8/4 for a week in OC, MD... playing 5 rounds..will report.

Thanks Yank for this other quickie report from a course that can make you eat your lunch! ;-)

And for you, it's already another MB vacation in the books! I'm hoping I'll be able to have as much fun as you did the last few days!

    Drive safely back home!

    Take care!

Thanks for your take on the Dye course Yank, nice to read the new greens are already in terrific shape, makes for a good day.  Plus you had the pleasure of watching one guy drive it by your best and the other getting up and down from everywhere.
Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tradgedies, obscured by the occassional miracle.

Got a new driver, and when i keep my hands dry (which was really hard to do this week), I'm hitting it pretty straight and pretty long for a short old fart like me! I don't get the extra arc you and Brian do being 8'6" each!

    What did you get Yank?
2013 will be my 35th consecutive year to make a golf trip to Myrtle in May. Retired as "group leader" after 2011 May trip, but still booking golf courses for the group. Only handle accommodations for myself and whoever shares lodging with me.

Sounds like you had a pleasant respite. Your course choices were prime. Good reporting.

I picked up a Nike VR straight...it's either last years or the year before's model...$99 at Dunhams sporting goods, matching 3 wood and hybrids were $69 and $49 respectfully. Both 3 wood and driver have beaucoup adjustments but i haven't messed with them....yet. Also picked up a Leopold laser for the bag at Martins...sweet unit for $249.

Again, Yank, a pleasure playing with you, and my first time with Brian.  He does take a swipe at that ball.

Yank's drive is not that of a "short old fart".  He hits it a long way.  Not like Brian, but very solidly.  And Jeff, I thought you kept it very straight most of the two days we played together.

If I had not known about new greens at Dye, I would not have guessed.  They were very good "for Bermuda".  Really no issue with the roll of the greens at all...and I really prefer bent greens.

And 6600 is a lot of sea level / Pete Dye yards.  But a fine course, on a fine day, with two fine gentlemen.

Thanks to Yank and to Brian for keeping me from a poorer golf course choice.

A couple of things got in my way, and I wasn't able to make it.  I did call early to let them know.  Thanks for our time together.
